Ruby Christine Abner, 85, of Stuart passed away December 15, 2015 at Martin Nursing & Restorative Care Center in Stuart under the care of Treasure Coast Hospice.
Born July 9, 1930 in Greer, SC, she was the oldest child of James H. and Nell Cannon. She moved to Stuart in 1995, coming from Umatilla, FL.
Ruby retired from Publix where she had worked in customer service at locations in South Florida, Umatilla and Stuart. She had also worked for Ranch House and along with her husband, assisted in opening restaurants in New York and Jacksonville, FL.
Ruby was a member of the Methodist faith and had attended Grace Place with friends from Publix.
She had volunteered at Martin Nursing and Restorative Care providing friendship with residents during "Chat with Ruby" days. She would provide conversation and reminisce with residents about the past. Ruby enjoyed spending her time with others and brightening their days, often with residents who may not have had family in the area to visit.
She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crafting.
Ruby is survived by her loving children, daughter, Phyllis Harrell of Stuart and son, Charles "Chuck" Harrell of Tucson, AZ; cherished grandchildren, Michelle, Marcy, Kristen, Jon, Brittany, Uriah and Sallie Ray; beloved great grandchildren, Arianna, Grace, Sophia, Susanna, Naomi and Beatrice; and her great greatgrandchild, Olivia; brothers, Marvin Cannon, Hugh Cannon and Gary Cannon; sisters, Ernestine Campbell, Ruth Williams, Edith Morgan, Joyce Hawkins, Peggy Hayes and Helen Hawthorne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Abner, former husband and father of her children, Charles Harrell; sister, Hazel Cannon, father, James Cannon, mother, Nell Cannon and step-mother, Hazel Cannon.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, January 11, 2016, at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel, 950 SE Monterey Rd., Stuart, FL 34994.
