Sandra L. Gaines, Age 83 of Stuart, FL passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Sandy was born October 8, 1929 in Flint, MI, daughter of the late Otto and Blanche (Marciniak) Stoddard. Sandy lived in the Florida Keys since the 1950's and moved to Stuart in 2005. She enjoyed reading and loved working with children, volunteering as a foster grandparent for the Martin County Schools. Surviving are a son, Michael & Theresa Gaines of Preston, CT; daughter, Melinda Gaines of St. Cloud, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelly, Matthew, Seana, Haley and Ross; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas Gaines in 2005. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services are scheduled at this time. Her cremains will be spread over the water of the Florida Keys at a private ceremony. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, Pet Peace of Mind program (1201 SE Indian St; Stuart, FL 34997). The family would like to thank the volunteers and staff of Treasure Coast Hospice and their Pet Peace of Mind program, who through their excellent care and compassion allowed Mother to make her final journey with dignity and in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family and longtime canine companion, Monroe.
