Steven A.J. Cannata, 67, of Port St. Lucie, passed away on August 31, 2019 at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he had had been a resident of Port St. Lucie for 15 years coming from Westbury, New York.
He had been an auto mechanic with the N.Y.C. Department of Sanitation. He also was funeral attendant and field representative for Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.
He was a member of and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie previously a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Levittown, New York.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the St. Francis of Assisi Assembly 3117 of The Knights of Columbus, and held the offices of Pilot and Faithful Navigator. As a knight with Father Omer Brauner Council #12159 of The Knights of Columbus, he held the offices of Financial Secretary, Grand Knight and Trustee. He was also an active member of the Port St. Lucie Anglers Club.
He was an accomplished guitarist and was well known for his rendition of "It's a Wonderful World" in the style of Louie Armstrong. He had also written several songs. He enjoyed cruising, camping, boating and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Mary Lou Cannata; his stepsons, Michael Grassullo of North Babylon, NY and Marc Grassullo of Port St. Lucie; his stepdaughter, Gina Marie Fedoryk of Hicksville, New York; his mother, Anita Hixon of Port St. Lucie; his sister, Christine Sinatra and her husband Benedetto of Commack, New York; his sister-in-law, Pam Cannata of Boca Raton, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 2 nieces and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Antonino Cannata and his brother, Peter Cannata.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home, Stuart, Florida, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 20 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City.
