Obituary

Vera Swanstrom, age 95, passed away on May 13, 2015 at Stuart Nursing and Restorative Care Center in Stuart, Florida. She lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa much of her life before she and her husband Charles moved to Florida in 1980, living in several retirement communities along the Treasure Coast.

Vera raised her family in Fort Dodge, spending many summers at their lake cottage and camping and traveling. Following her passion, she perfected her golf game and became an avid golfer, winning many tournaments up through her 80's. She delighted in living on the golf course at Eaglewood Golf Community in Hobe Sound for 16 years. She traveled extensively with her husband in their motorhome throughout the United States and Canada.

Vera is survived by one son, Richard Swanstrom and his wife Patricia, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; two daughters, Linda Soltysik and her husband Steven, of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii and Jill Abramson and her husband Michael, of Palm City, Florida; six grandchildren, Andrea Swanstrom, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Matthew Swanstrom, of Johnston, Iowa, Tawna Bensaid and her husband Alexandre, of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, Jade Aki and her husband Keola, of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, Grace Abramson, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and Michelle Abramson, of Palm City, Florida; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron Cox, Amanda Swanstrom, and Skye Bensaid.

Vera was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Charles Swanstrom in 2003; her parents William and Grace Kruse, sister Vivian Rupert and husband Harlan; and sister-in-law Grenevere Swanstrom Smith and husband Merritt.

She will be interned with her husband at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. There will be a private family service there at a later date.

Memorials may be given in Vera's honor to the "Butterfly Garden" she enjoyed so much at Stuart Nursing and Restorative Care Center, 1500 SE Palm Beach Road, Stuart, Florida 34994 or to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997

She appreciated and benefited greatly from the love and care of both during her last year and a half of life.
