Whitall Bethal "Whitey" Hiles, Jr., 92, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2015 at home with his family at his side. Born in Dorchester, New Jersey and residing there until moving to Port Saint Lucie thirty years ago. Son of the late Whitall B. Hiles, Sr. and LuVisa Lee Hiles.
He retired as Yard Manager from the Dorchester Shipyard in Dorchester, New Jersey in 1985. He was a Freemason for over fifty years with the Shekinah Lodge #58 in Millville, New Jersey. Previously a member of the Dorchester United Methodist Church and was a current member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Port Saint Lucie. He has been a committee member and Deacon at both churches. Whitey served in the United States Navy with honor, was a World War II veteran, and a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, who owned and raced stock cars in the 1950's. He enjoyed carpentry and making wood crafts.
Surviving are his wife of seventy-three years, Jeanne Marie "Jeannette" Hiles; four children, Peter Hiles of Colorado and Florida, Darlene Hiles of Florida, Joseph Hiles, of Pennsylvania, and Diane Hiles of Pennsylvania; one grandson, Matthew Hiles, of Pennsylvania; one brother, Edward "Lee" Hiles of New Jersey; and two sisters, Mabel Rumbold of New Jersey, and Veva Hiles of Minnesota.

A Memorial Service / Celebration of Life will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Interment will be ad the Head of the River Cemetery, Estell Manor, New Jersey. Both dates to be determined at a later time allowing for family members to travel.
