Dr. William "Bill" G. Hawkins, DDS, 86, passed away peacefully with family at Hospice on March 13, 2016.

He was born in Richmond, Va. to Luther Reid and Marion Hawkins on January 24, 1930, growing up in Keysville, VA and graduating from Randolph-Henry High School in 1947 and College of William and Mary in 1951. After college he joined the Marines and served in Korea, where he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Upon his discharge as a Captain, he married Mary Lou Curry on Nov. 15, 1953. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia Dental School in 1959. He moved to Chincoteague, Va. where he practiced dentistry until 1967, when he moved his family to Freeport, Bahamas where they lived until 1972. They then moved to Stuart Florida, where he practiced until he retired in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou and 3 children Jennifer McCarty (Joseph), William, Jr.(Marianne) and Reid, and 5 grandchildren, Lily McCarty, Patrick Hawkins, William McCarty, Mary Ellen Hawkins, and Cailun McCarty, and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin/brother William Singleton of Richmond Virginia, nieces Mina Jo Dosher and Susan Von Rosenburg of Texas and nephew Robert Hawkins Jr. of Richmond.

He was predeceased by his brothers Reid Hawkins and Robert Hawkins. Bill enjoyed tennis, golf and sailing. He cruised the Bahamas for many years.
