Obituary

William Newell Deamer, 92, of Stuart, Florida passed peacefully surrounded by family into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 28, 2021.  He was born in Trenton, New Jersey on December 21, 1928.

A WWII and Korean War Army veteran, Bill served a tour in Korea, where he was a radio operator.  He retained his Morse Code knowledge and was happy to spell out our names whenever asked.

Bill met Esther, his wife of 65 years, on a blind date when he was performing in Gethsemane Baptist Church's Dramatic Guild.  Bill remained an active member of Gethsemane and served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher.  As Youth Director, he ran a neighborhood basketball group when a gym was added to the church.  Gethsemane elected Bill as a Lay Minister, and he served as pastor of Mountain Christian Church in Hopewell, New Jersey conducting church services, funerals and weddings.

During the early 1960's Bill was an announcer on Trenton's radio station WTOA.  He also spent several years with American Ferment Company and retired from the US Postal Service in Robbinsville, New Jersey after a long career that began in Trenton.

Upon moving to Cape May, New Jersey following retirement, Bill and Esther became active in Cape Island Baptist Church, and upon their move to Florida, they joined Stuart Congregational Church.  Bill and his wife delivered Mobile Meals together for 19 years in Cape May County.

In addition to his beloved wife Esther, Bill is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Denny Turner and Donna and Kevin Barnes, grandchildren Brian Turner, Amy Scavuzzo, Erin Barnes and Brett Barnes, 8 great-grandchildren, brother Lester Deamer, many dear nieces and nephews and his kind caregivers and second family at Grand Oaks of Jensen Beach.

Services will be held at a later date.
