IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William F.
Hoffman
August 31, 1937 – December 10, 2022
William F. Hoffman, August 31, 1937 – December 10, 2022
A beloved partner, father, grand-father, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Bill was a man overflowing with strength and pride; a heart so big that it crowded any room he occupied. He saw profuse loss in his life, burying two children: daughter, Lora Hoffman; son, Billy Hoffman; 2 grandsons, Brandon Roat, and Robby Howell (Tatiana); three brothers: Bob Hoffman (Charlotte), Danny Sorbo, Raymond Sorbo; three sisters: Fran Stephens (Dave), Ethyl Papa (Ralph), Marie Hoffman; and his parents during his lifetime. The legacy he leaves behind are: his dedicated and loving partner, Susie Landy; 3 brothers; Joe Hoffman, Kenny Sorbo, Dicky Sorbo; his devoted children: daughter Lisa Hoffman-Buravski (Joe); step-daughters: Michelle Richardson, Connie Sorman (Peter), Danielle Fisher (Jeff), Cindy Ekberg (Tommy); step-son Son Edwin Landy (Kim); his 13 adoring grandchildren: Audra Blank (Alan), Larry Walls, Shawn Walls, Lee Sorman, Tonya LaPorte (Neil), Chantelle Walls, Courtney Richardson, Jake Richardson, Brianna Roat, Chad Fisher (Jami), Jesse Sorman, Alexa Sorman and Adam Landy; 9 great grandchildren: Riley Luther, Laura Schneider, Sky Walls, Ben LaPorte, Bella LaPorte, Leila Blank, Ella Howell, Arya Fisher, and Jamie Blank; and many nieces, and nephews.
Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18, in 1955 and served his country proudly. One of 10 children, he grew up in Milford, CT and worked for 35 years in the Armstrong Rubber Tire Company in West Haven, CT. After moving to Jensen Beach, FL in 1983, he worked as a grounds keeper and quickly owned his own landscaping business for many years before retiring. A true outdoorsman, he was happiest when surrounded by family; often orchestrating family gatherings, camping trips, pop-up softball games, and backyard barbeques. He found immense joy and fulfillment in caring for his home, lawn and gardens and those of many others. His passion for the ocean continued throughout his life and was an avid fisherman. He was well-known for his boundless energy, endless love for family, jovial laughter, selfless nature, and his incredibly warm hugs. He was an exuberant dad, grandpa, and "big brother," all the while providing loving guidance and having great expectations for strong character in those he cared about. In his later years, he built butterfly houses and raised Monarchs simply for the pleasure it brought him to see them through the stages of transformation; slowly unfolding their wings and flitting around his gardens. Although life could be trying, he was a happy and grateful man who will forever be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, and his mind-boggling ability to argue any point to exhaustion (although he could also be known for throwing in a "no biggie" in the end), but he will mostly be missed because off his abundant generosity and capacity for unreserved love.
While no funeral service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony with a spreading of ashes by the family will be planned for a future date. Because Bill was a supporter of the Children's Tumor Foundation to honor his Grandson, Jesse, the family asks if you are so moved, that you make a donation in his memory here: join.ctf.org/williamhoffman or by mail: Children's Tumor Foundation, Mail Code: 6895 P.O. Box 7247 Philadelphia, PA 19170-0001
