Obituary

William R. "Bill" Johnston, age 90, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Milford, Massachusetts on November 30, 1926. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathryn (Ranieri), 4 children: Diane Edwards (Norman), William Jr. (Kathleen), Steven (Pamela), Kellie Hutchins (Robert), and 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Mae, and sister Claire Wilson of Franklin, Massachusetts. Bill was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of Okinawa. He moved his family to Florida in August of 1956 and was a certified airplane mechanic with Eastern Airlines in Miami for 31 years. He was an accomplished drummer and leader of the Stardust band, an avid motorcycle enthusiast and longtime University of Miami Hurricane fan. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Elks and German American Clubs and a former president of the Polish American Club in Port St. Lucie. Bill was a volunteer officer in the Port St. Lucie Police Department Community Patrol for many years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He touched many lives and will be missed by those that knew him. A Mass celebrating Bill's life will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.
