Mickey Johnston
Mickey Johnston, dearly loved husband, father, brother, uncle and Pop Pop, passed peacefully into the Light of God on Saturday, May 10, 2014. His family was with him at his passing and we know he felt our love. Mickey was born in Neptune, NJ, on September 10, 1949. He was a 1967 graduate of Lake Worth High School. Mickey lived in Hobe Sound for 35 years.
Mickey was a highly skilled professional jeweler and owned Hobe Sound Jewelers for many years. He was one of the charter members of the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce and a board member emeritus of the Hobe Sound Nature Center. He had many interests, including surfing, fishing, and building cars. He was heavily involved in Penland School of Crafts in the North Carolina mountains. This involvement with Penland and the friendships made there eventually led to one of Mickey's jewelry pieces being acquired by the Smithsonian Institution.
Mickey is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years and caregiver Chris; son Paul and granddaughter Samantha; daughter Jennie (Page) Whittle and granddaughters Hannah and Sarah; sister Linda Miller and her daughters Melissa McCranels and Jessie Miller and great niece Lea Fox.
A celebration of Mickey's life will be held at some point in the future.
